Our Children’s ministries offer ways to grow disciples of Jesus
Christ. We begin with the nurturing environment of our nursery and continue
through 6th grade. We offer: As a service to the community, we offer a licensed after-school program called Latchkey for school-aged children at Alamo, Brook Village, Ben Franklin, Crockett, and Sam Houston elementary schools Monday through Friday, following the school calendar. Staff and volunteers offer a caring, supervised environment for children for a minimal fee. We also offer a Mother’s Day Out program from 9:00 am -3:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also offer weekly summertime programming, Vacation Bible School in August, and various mission project experiences throughout the year. Class Time: Sunday morning, 9:30-10:30 am. The students are presented a standardized curriculum that is appropriate to their learning styles and ages. They study scripture and prayer through activities and discussions.Classes include:
• 3 year olds
• 4 year olds
• Kindergarten
• Grades 1 and 2
• Grades 3 and 4
• Grade 5 and 6
• Confirmation Class for 6th grade and up—designed for children and youth who are interested in becoming members of the church.
Children are invited to join in Children's Church after the children's sermon at the 10:50 a.m. worship hour on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month. During the 1st Sundays of the month, children are encouraged to worship with their families and the larger church family. The children sing, pray, and learn bible stories. They are asked to look for God at work in their lives and in their midst
Acolytes provide leadership for the various worship services by lighting candles, carrying banners, and assisting with communion. The Acolyte Crew meets from 5:00-6:30 pm each Sunday evening for training, to tidy the sanctuary and prepare it for the following week, and to learn about aspects of worship. Afterwards, they enjoy fellowship, and snacks.
Class Time: 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursdays
Grades 2 to 3 explore favorite stories of thebible with observation, application, and prayer
Grades 4 to 6 study applying Christian principles to their lives through biblical study.
Class Time: Wednesday 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Through the use of puppets, drama, banners, and writing the children are encouraged to use their creativity and talents to learn new ways to participate in the study, praise, and worship of God. They explore the potential for art, drama, and music to add depth to their appreciation and understanding of God at work in our world.
Children's
ChoirsLittle Blessings Choir (Ages 2 to 3)
Rehearsal Time: 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays
This class is for children and their parents (or another adult) to participate in singing songs, playing musical games and instruments, and reading stories together each week. The class teaches songs of the faith and as well as providing good fundamental concepts of musicianship appropriate for this age. The class lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Promise Choir (Ages 4 to Grade 1)
Rehearsal Time: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays
This choir performs regularly for morning worship (usually once a month) and for other special occasions. They participate in Christmas pageant with the Wesley Choir, and present a spring musical. The group rehearses approximately one hour each week, preceded by a snack time.
Wesley Choir (Grades 2 to 6)
Rehearsal Time: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursdays
This choir performs regularly (at least once a month) for morning worship, and other special occasions. They present a Christmas pageant in December, and participate in a choir tour in May with a presentation of their spring musical. The group rehearses for one hour each Thursday, preceded by a snack time.
Wesley Ringers (Grades 2 to 6)
Rehearsal Time: 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays
Children learn musical concepts including note recognition, clapping and playing rhythms, and apply this knowledge to playing handbells or tone chimes. The group plays for worship (at least 2 times each semester) and for other special occasions.
Mother's
Day OutExcellent care and activities are offered each Tuesday and Thursday for infants through nine year olds from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost for one child is $10.00 per day and the fees for additional children are based on number of children in the same family. The parents are asked to provide a lunch for each child they bring. Hope Hernandez, the nursery coordinator, has over 25 years of experience at Floral Heights.
